ABOUT THE GUEST-SPEAKER
His Holiness Bhakti Vijnana Goswami was born in Tashkent, former Soviet Union. He took to spiritual life in 1980, during a difficult time during the communist era in the former Soviet Union, when the National Security forces (primarily, the KGB) were harassing any type of spiritual practitioner. Despite these obstacles, Bhakti Vijnana Goswami – a scientist, a Moscow State University graduate and postgraduate student at the Institute of Molecular Biology – decided to experiment with the Hare Krishna mantra. To his great happiness, it moved him profoundly.
Bhakti Vijnana Goswami is a disciple of Radhanath Swami and has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. From 1988 to 1995, he resided in Sweden where he led the translation of Srila Prabhupada's books into Russian and other languages of the former Soviet Union. After that, he served as the head of the Russian chapter of ISKCON (the International Society for Krishna Consciousness) for over two decades. In 2001, he was awarded a title of sannyasi, the renunciate, and in 2005 he became one of the initiating gurus of ISKCON.
Bhakti Vijnana Goswami is known for his numerous lectures and seminars in which he uses his deep knowledge combined with his soft and delicate nature and presents the philosophy of Krishna consciousness in a practical and understandable manner.
ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Saturday evenings Atmanivedana das (Atma) and Subhangada dasi (Subhie) teach how to hear and chant sanskrit names for God, especially known as Krishna, in kirtan (accompanied by melodious and rhythmic music). Additionally, the advanced devotees of Krishna teach a systematic study of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is.
Bhagavad-gita As It Is is studied according to an ancient chain of teachers, starting with Krishna, and most recently His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada), the founder-acharya of ISKCON (the International Society for Krishna Consciousness). Classes are on fascinating topics including karma, reincarnation, the soul, the material energy, God, time, and the relationship between the soul, the material energy, and God.
Atma and Subhie's program at 26 Second Avenue started in January 2011 and is meant for all, regardless of one's familiarity with the subject matter.
